Service Description

Suicide is a growing concern world wide and has far reaching and devastating consequences for all. Dealing with suicidal patients is not uncommon among mental health workers, and yet there is still much uncertainty on best interventions, especially given the many ethical considerations and challenges one encounters. The objective of this two part training is to discuss and explore this complex phenomenon to better equip mental health care workers in risk and prevention management as well as treatment of depressed and suicidal patients. The statistics, causes and warning signs will be discussed and case studies presented. A practical framework with a risk assessment strategy will be included as well as researched theories that aim to provide a better understanding of suicidal and self-harming behaviours.
